Energy Sector
ChallengeCapula is a prominent provider of digital technologies focused on industrial automation and control systems. The company delivers advanced operational technology (OT) solutions that help ensure the safe and efficient functioning of some of the UK’s most critical infrastructure. As part of the Imtech group and ultimately the EDF Group, Capula has played a key role in implementing Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) solutions that drive asset digitalisation and support industrial OT initiatives.
To enhance their capabilities in IoT and further align with Industry 4.0 principles, Capula recognised the need to expand their development team with IoT experts, ensuring successful execution of future-focused digital projects.
Capula continues to innovate within the energy sector, consistently developing new technology solutions. As the pace of change accelerates, the company recognised the importance of scaling its software development efforts to remain competitive. This led to the identification of a need to restructure and enhance the development team by incorporating additional expertise across the entire software lifecycle. Capula set out to find a resourcing partner with strong technical proficiency and the ability to provide flexible support—ensuring the team could adapt quickly and effectively contribute to successful project execution.
Capula aimed to find a reliable partner with a solid track record in developing solutions using the PTC ThingWorx platform, to support the enhancement of its Energy Monitoring System. ThingWorx was selected as the core IoT platform due to its successful use in earlier projects. The primary challenge Capula faced was assembling a development team with the specific skills and expertise required to effectively deliver on the platform’s capabilities.
TTPSC handled recruitment, onboarding, and the creation of a productive work environment, effectively complementing Capula’s in-house team. This approach facilitated efficient knowledge transfer, keeping the team aligned with current IoT practices and technologies. As a result, Capula’s staff became capable of independently maintaining and enhancing IoT applications, removing the need for additional hiring and helping reduce overall project costs.
The partnership proved highly effective. TTPSC gave Capula the ability to scale and expand its project teams with flexibility, while also contributing to core internal processes like solution architecture and DevOps.
This support accelerated the development of Capula’s energy monitoring system and advanced its demand-side response solution. TTPSC has remained a valuable partner, continuing to assist with key research and development initiatives.
